Friends of Rail is hopeful Senate Bill No. 4 will provide the funding necessary to construct Honolulu’s rail project to Ala Moana. If it falls short, we will look to the legislature to quickly fix any shortcomings and do what is necessary to meet the requirements of the Full Funding Grant Agreement. In such a case, it will also be essential that elected officials from every island work together to produce a fair and collaborative remedial solution.
On June 16, 2017, the legislative leaders declared their commitment to this project when they communicated to the FTA, “the strength of our collective resolve to craft a legislative solution that will provide the City and County of Honolulu with a dedicated revenue stream that, along with the Full Funding Grant Agreement, will enable the City and County of Honolulu to complete construction of . . . the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.” We remain optimistic that our government leaders will do all that is necessary to ensure this project is successfully completed.
